Our swing dance journey started in 2020, just before the world went into COVID lockdown. We were so happy to have found a dance school that offers this style of dance and we were determined to push through with online classes until we were able to return to the studio.
Once we returned to the studio, we attended two aerial/lift workshops, and we joked about backflips and air steps at our wedding one day. After getting engaged in 2021, we challenged Alissa to choreograph two routines for us: a traditional/slow dance as well as a crazy swing routine for us.
Oh man, did she deliver! We were suddenly faced with a routine comprising op 6 and 8 counts Lindy Hop, Charleston, Collegiate Shag, and 5 air steps. Our slow dance was very basic but still elegant and romantic, and of course, had two lifts as well.
There were many tears of frustration (and a little bit of fear), but with Alissa’s support and encouragement, we completely nailed it.
We are so happy to be part of the dance family at Five6Seven8 and I know we’ll be swinging until we are too old to bust a move. Thank you Alissa for being part of our special day and making our dance a most memorable one.
